I have had a difficult time with Mr. Maquire's philosophical side for years. First there was Plesantville, which is basically an inversion of the Genesis story, supposing the serpent had been right. Then there was Cider House Rules, which was even more horrific, in many wyas it was a lot like that newer movie Monster, about that female serial killer from Florida.

Maquire's intellectual development is stuck at a perennially adolescent level. He is stuck in the "nobody understands me" phase.

Ben, I agree. But what I found most interesting was this quote:

"The topics that interest me have nothing to do with my own celebrity or whether I relate to Peter Parker or what happened with my back or these kind of things," Maguire said. "What interests me is: What is existence? Who are we as people? What are we here to do individually, and collectively who are we? I like to hear what people have to say about that sort of thing."

If Mr. Maquire just continues to follow that question, and doesn't settle for his own answer, but seeks a True answer, then he will encounter the same Presence that moves me.
