A Soldier's Funeral

I went to Capt. Sean Sims' funeral mass today.  It was beautiful.  The Bishop was in attendance.  Fr. Dean Wilhelm was the main celebrant.  The Liturgy was solemn and reverent.  The music was beauticul.  Jesu Dulcis Memoria was sung during communion and In Paradesium was the recessional.  In fact, the solemnity of the mass, joined with the solemn civic touches of the Texas A&M Cadet's serving as pall bearers was beautiful.  You would have to be made of stone not to be touched.

Thank you for your kind words about the music at the funeral Mass. As a member of the Brazos Valley Schola Cantorum, we have so many opportunities to sing chant on various occasions. This one was totally different. The family asked us to sing for Sgt. Sims, and we had never sung In Paradisum before. We did not have a practice to practice it, so we downloaded MP3's and practiced a LOT. Something about the gravity of the moment made us determined to offer our absolute best.

May Sgt. Sims's soul rest in peace.
