For the Love of Caricatures!

Well, I've been accused of belittling those "womyn proponents of a female priesthood" that pass for Catholic theologians . . .  Well, I certainly didn't mean to create a caricature . . . so let's just post pictures of them straight up . . .

We Are Church!

US Catholic has collected some messages for Pope Benedict from women "leaders" in the American Church.

Yeah, they're leaders alright . . . rebel leaders.  If these women are representative of women Catholics in America then my mom and her friends must be anomalies.

Sr. Teresa Kane, Sr. Elizabeth Johnson, Rosemary Radford Ruether, Dolores Curran, Elizabeth Shussler-Fiorenza . . . it's a veritable who's who of the "I used to be someone important" society.  They should form a club, called something like the "Gray Haired Crone Association" or something . . . of course, that might be insulting to other Crones, and we don't want to be insulting . . .

Of course, there are others who are offer a feminine voice on things . . . but be forwarned:  These women aren't nearly as old or gray or angry!  Check out Women of the Third Millenium

Harry Potter Rumors . . .

Apparently there has been a leak at the plant publishing the new Harry Potter book "Half Blood Prince.  It seems that Dumbledore (highlight the space if you want to know) will be the character who dies.

Of course these are rumors and Bloosmsbury is denying everything . . . We'll have to wait and see.  You can, of course, keep up with the latest in the Muggle rumor mill at MuggleNet.com

Andrea Tornielli

Zenit has an interview with Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli.  It has some great insights into Pope Benedict's pontificate and the hope of the Church.  Guess what?  It's gonna about Jesus!

Q: It has been said that what John Paul II was for communism, Benedict XVI will be for relativism.

Tornielli: I wish to make a clarification. Just as I avoid the caricature that certain progressive environments have made of Ratzinger over the past 20 years, I also try to be on guard against a certain error: to think that he will be a Pope on the basis of what Cardinal Ratzinger, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was and said.

I don't think that Benedict XVI's "program" is to combat relativism. I believe, instead, that he will seek to proclaim and witness the simplicity, purity and beauty of faith in Jesus Christ.

The antidote to relativism is not a program, it is not a theory, it is not and can never be an invective or a denunciation. An invective, a denunciation, however, were more useful vis-à-vis communism. No, the antidote is in a people, even small in number, that lives the faith and witnesses the fullness of life.

Check out Digital Paper.  It's a great blog, she's a great writer . . . a sort of "underground" Catholic maybe . . . anyway, its a great read . . .

GodsBody

I'm pretty sure I blogged it before.  But here it goes again:  Check out the GodsBody blog by Matt Lickona the author of Swimming with Scapulars and a force behind Godspy.  It's great.  I had "kind of" stopped reading it, but started again today and remembered what a good writer he is.  I still haven't picked up Swimming with Scapulars but that will soon change.

Does David Griffith Read This Blog?

David Griffith has a great article up at Godspy on Hunter S. Thompson, the author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  It's been up a while but I never got around to reading it until today.  I really enjoyed it, but I was even more impressed by the awesome title . . . "From Being to Nothingness" which captures the drama of a life like Thompson's perfectly.
