John Paul II's Cause is Opened

Pope Benedict has cleared the way for the beatification of Pope John Paul II.  Waiving the typical 5 year waiting period after death, Pope Benedict XVI has declared Pope John Paul II a servant of God and opened the investigation into his sanctity.  Read the offical news here:  Cause is opened

There were a lot of stiff necks out there who hoped that Benedict would put a stop to all of John Paul II's canonization craziness (waiving waiting periods, canonizing "too many" saints).  Looks like they're all going to be sadly disappointed.  Good.
