Stephen, I was really impressed by what you wrote here, and it helped me understand much of what I felt at the National Diaconia last month. I felt (not for the first time, but it was clearer than it has ever been) that the Church is very much a family. And we're a family much like any family--we don't all necessarily get along all the time, and sometimes we get frustrated and upset by things. But we still recognize that there is a bond that brings us together. In the Movement, it is the fact that we follow this man, Fr. Giussani. As don Pino said at the Diaconia, "I belong to him." And because we all belong to him, we belong together with each other.
