This was written by my friend "Frodo" over at WeAdore.com We Adore is a website for kids in the Antioch Youth Groups in South Bend, Indiana and in Brenham, TX. The Antioch group in Brenham is called BLAZE and the Antioch Groups in South Bend are called Antioch and The Rock. I'll post more about Antioch later, but right now, since it's convention time, I thought we might enjoy some young persons' views on politics and celebrities . . .
OK guys, I've never done this before so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but I really wanted to say this.
I am SO sick of hearing moronic celebrities on the news telling me which way to vote!! I guess I have to acknowledge that in an election year people talk about politics every time I turn on the TV_but couldn't they at least be intelligent people?
What makes celebrities think that just because they can sing or act (or can't do either) they are entitled and qualified to give us inarticulate opinions about topics they have no grasp of every chance they get?
I mean, look at the way they live their lives! When's the last time anyone heard of a successful hollywood marriage? I'm not taking advice from people who can't even run their own lives.
Maybe these celebrities should simply return to making disastrous career decisions and leave politics to people who know what they're talking about.
And in a later post . . ..
Maybe I was a little harsh, but I stand by my post. Celebrities don't have opinions on most issues. They have prejudices. In order for an idea to be an opinion it must be suported by some kind of evidence. A thought with no evidence to back it up is a prejudice.
Everyone in our democracy does not have the right to voice prejudices. Hate Speech, for example, is illegal. And, frankly, even if they do have the right to voice "opinions", I have the right to tell them that their thoughts are foolish and walk away.
I cannot get away from these people and their prejudices. That is why I was irritated in the first place.
