In the world of wierd but cool . . .
It appears that the very odd childrens entertainment troupe, "The Wiggles," have taken to supporting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The St. Vincent de Paul society runs some thrift stores called "Vinnies" where the proceeds of the store go to help the poor that the Society serves. Hey, more power to em . . .
Wiggles promote "bright colours" of Vinnies shops
Internationally successful children’s entertainers The Wiggles have once again put their support behind the promotion of the Vinnies Shops run by the St Vincent de Paul Society. The latest Wiggles campaign was launched yesterday, according to a media release from Vinnies NSW/ACT Division.
Wiggles Manager, Paul Field said, “The Wiggles wanted to support Vinnies Shops around Australia by telling potential customers that they are friendly, bright and colourful places where shoppers can find good items at reasonable prices while supporting Vinnies many good works.”
Staffed and operated by 8500 dedicated volunteers in NSW/ACT alone, Vinnies Shops are the best known of the St Vincent de Paul Society’s good works. With 271 locations in NSW/ACT, Vinnies is also one of the largest retailers in the State. The sale of donated goods at Vinnies Shops goes a long way to helping disadvantaged people through family support, homeless services, women’s and family refuges, care of the mentally ill, youth support and many more services.
The campaign statement reports that Anthony, Greg, Jeff and Murray discovered that at a Vinnies Shop you can find books and music, good quality clothing and household items at reasonable prices.
"Vinnies Shops don’t just sell things - they are an important contact point for people who need help from the Society. Because so much goes on at Vinnies Shops, we call them Centres of Charity."
State President of NSW/ACT St Vincent de Paul Society, John O’Neill said, “The Society would like to thank The Wiggles for their support of our Shops. We are very excited about this initiative and hope more people will come to us to do their shopping.”
Vinnies advises that a full list of Vinnies Shop locations can be found in the White Pages under ‘St Vincent de Paul Society’, on the Vinnies website.
