Will the whining in the Boston Archdiocese ever cease?
I understand how someone who has been attending the same parish for more than 30 years can get upset over a parish closing. It would be sad, difficult, and maybe even get you a little angry. But we're Catholics. We know that the Church is more than the parish. We go to Mass to receive Christ and we can receive him at any Church. We are not a social club. They are not closing our meeting hall. Yes its sad, but if they are closing our parish it is ultimately OUR fault.
Why didn't we encourage more vocations? Why did we allow the work of the parish to be done by an increasingly graying crowd. I've been in parishes where the complaint is that these "young" people were always trying to take over everything and the "old guard" has resisted them mightily. So the young people go elsewhere, to other church's (hopefully other Catholic churches but there is no guarantee). And the congregation at these older churches keeps gettting grayer and ripe for closing.
And no, after 30 years of not encouraging vocations . . . After 30 years of fighting "liturgical battles" and not spiritual ones . . . After 30 years of "tithing" a dollar a week . . . After 30 years of being Catholic on Sunday and everything else monday through Saturday, the Church is closing.
Shame on the Archdiocese? No . . . shame on us!!
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
